Delete your Android account (Google Play)
This page explains how to request deletion of your account for the Comma Compliance Android app (published by Comma Compliance, Inc. on Google Play), what happens to your data - including any Android SMS/RCS messages captured by the app - and how long any retained data is kept.
How to request deletion
Section titled “How to request deletion”To request that your Android account and associated data be deleted, email us at support@commacompliance.com from the address on file. Please include:
- The name and email address associated with your account
- That you are requesting deletion of your Comma Compliance Android account
Once we verify your request, we begin processing it within 30 days and confirm by email when it is complete.
An important note about how Comma works
Section titled “An important note about how Comma works”The Comma Compliance Android app is a business communications-compliance tool. Accounts are typically created and managed by the regulated organization (your employer or firm) that subscribes to Comma. In data-protection terms, your organization is the data controller and Comma acts as the data processor on its behalf.
Because of this:
- We can delete or deactivate the account data we control directly (see below).
- For Android messages (including SMS and RCS) that have been archived on your organization’s behalf, we forward your deletion request to your organization’s administrator, who decides what can be deleted consistent with the law. We cannot unilaterally delete those records.
What data is deleted
Section titled “What data is deleted”When you request deletion, the following account data is deleted or de-identified:
- Your profile information (name, email address, mobile phone number, and contact details)
- Your login credentials and authentication data
- Your notification and account preferences
- Device and session identifiers tied to your Android login
What data is retained, and for how long
Section titled “What data is retained, and for how long”The Comma Compliance Android app exists to preserve business communications for regulated organizations. Archived messages - including Android SMS and RCS messages - and their metadata are stored in write-once, read-many (WORM) format and cannot be altered or deleted during the retention period - this is a legal recordkeeping requirement, not a technical limitation.
| Data type | What happens | Retention period |
|---|---|---|
| Account profile, credentials, preferences | Deleted or de-identified on request | Removed within 30 days of a verified request |
| Archived Android messages (SMS/RCS) and metadata | Retained under your organization’s recordkeeping obligations; deletion is controlled by your organization | Per your organization’s configured policy. Regulatory minimums apply - e.g. SEC Rule 17a-4 requires a minimum of 3 years (often 6-7 years in practice); other regimes may require longer |
| Records we must keep by law | Retained only as required (e.g. legal, audit, tax, or fraud-prevention obligations) | Only as long as the applicable law requires |
After any applicable retention period expires, retained data is deleted or permanently de-identified in accordance with your organization’s policy and applicable law.
